Yet another classic performance from August of '82. That must've been a fun tour to be on as they play some cool venues and the month is brimming with good shows.
There's nothing really mindblowing here, but the boys are playing well and the setlist has a nice flow to it. Obvious highlights are the opening trio, love this combo; Althea; a hoppin China>Rider to open the second set; spacey Playin'>>Wheel sandwich and solid Dew>Saturday Night closer.
This show also features a showcase performance of Let It Grow. Some others from the eighties that deserve attention are 8-28-81 Long Beach and the famous second set monster from 9-11-83 in Santa Fe. Some excellent later readings are MSG 9-19-90, again in a rare second set appearance; and 3-10-93 Rosemont Horizon, a juicy version with just Vince.
Unfortunately I cant comment much on sound because I'm listening on crappy speakers, but from what I can tell it sounds good.
I rate shows based on era, and even though this one lies in the midst of the very strong 81-83 period, I'm going to give it four stars.

Once your AUD ears get dialed-in, this recording definitely sounds better than the DP. Phil is playing a $100 bargain bin bass (something he did a lot in '82 for some reason), so his levels still suck, but the rest of the boys come through nicely. Amazing show. Loved reading the stories below (damn those males wearing tapestry skirts).

Saw the boys many times there and it was always fun. Something about a warm Wisconsin summer eve in farm country. The Althea is indeed sweet and one of my faves. Started off the show with a couple three "eye drops" purchased in the parking lot. A few songs in we noted many empty seats under the pavilion and trotted down there. The band really started cookn' then and I went down the center isle to dance. Moments later one of those no neck security guys assaulted me from behind without warning digging his fingers into my neck.
I spun around and without thinking gave him a hard shot with my palm to his chin. That layed him out for a few seconds but there was nowhere to run and he ejected me stage left through a gate into the dark woods. Managed to jump the fence and got back in.
I like the sound just fine. Well worth the download.

Thanks for the seed bro. I was there with Dyke & some other ones, and I'm too cheap to replace the Dick's Pick I lost. Something crawled into my belly during the space, and I don't know if IT ever got out. I also have a visual(still wishing I could forget) of some hairy dude in a tapestry skirt twirling it way too high... Oh ya, great mud slide!

Subject: Jerry Goes Crazy on Let It Grow
Jerry just lets it all hang out on Let It Grow. All the joy, all the angst. Utterly. So. Clearly. THE defining moment of this galactic communication.
This sound is my sound. This guitar would I wish to present to the incorporating universe big or small as it is.
Here exists, my fellow travelers, a truly well-captured exhibition of this band in all its glory. This here is thusly captured all utterly remarkable within audience recording parametrix.
And should a listener conclude that Jerry just peters out, oh no, he just keeps glistering on, note after/upon re-shaping the entire cosmos in one fell swoop.
Brighten up your path.

So, as I write this there IS a more recent AUD than this, and it's maybe a tad more bright with Garcia way out front, but here's why I prefer this one: it's the complete show WITH the first set, it actually has bass (Lesh is inaudible on the most recent), and it also has a lot more depth. The jams are spectacular, and the first set list is stunning. There's a part in the China/Rider transition very reminiscent of the way they used to do it '73 & '74, but looser and twistier. Anyway, very awesome.

Plus an On the Road Again, Althea, Dew... so I understand why so many 5 star ratings- the show rocks, it's been released commercially so this is the only opportunity to listen to it free, and I'm thankful too...
But it's not a 5 star recording. There are problems with the low end. There are times when Phil's bass notes can be heard clearly, but most of the time it's muddy and loud. The bass is so loud at the beginning of set 2 that it turns into distortion.

This was one of my first tapes! A buddy of mine in high school had a brother at Swarthmore who was pretty well plugged into (a) tape trading circuit of the mid-80's ... anyway, I remember this one well. Really sweet to find it here again ... I last listened to it 20+ years ago before giving it away to who-knows-who. Like running into an old friend, isn't it? And the music ... goes without saying, it's really good.

How lucky for this to be your first show! A unique show and a smoker also. I see there are a lot of sbd seeds of this show, with this the only aud (as Mr. Suraci notes. I don't know if you need the sbd, as good as this aud sounds. The sound is right down front, and awesome. Whoever ran this rig knew what they were doing. Is it a Walker? Suraci mentions Nak700s, but I don't know, the crispness reminds me of the Sony ECM250. Perhaps Phil could be a bit louder, but there is still pretty good capture of Phil, with Jerry very loud and everybody else well-captured. This show and this seed just smokes.

Subject: My First Dead Show
Subject: My First Dead Show
Wow do I ever love what the internet has given us deadheads! This was my first dead show. How I managed to convince my mum to let me go to East Troy,WI to see the dead (twice!) is beyond me. The parking lot was basically a carnival/party zone for 2 1/2 days. I remember a bunch of us crossing the golf course behind the amphitheatre and crashing the resort, swimmin around in the pool & everything. I wasn't even 17 years old yet. Now for the shows... great stuff!! I barely knew any of the songs, but that didn't keep me from having an absolute blast. Being a drummer, i really got off on the rhythm devils!!! (especially on night two when Hamza El Din sat in for drums. So many great memories of meeting very cool and accomadating people. Being from Canada, we all figured Americans were a bunch of assholes who love violence & couldn't find Canada on a map. So it was a good education for my young mind to meet such great people in such a good scene! I spent a lot of 83 & 84 whippin around down the east coast checking out great shows & hanging with my new american brothers & sisters , and eventually convinced my Mum to come along to a show with me ( Kingswood '87).... SHE LOVED IT!!!!
